Meeting at 6pm on October 5th
The play park on Christ Church Green – the only facility of this kind for young children in Wanstead – has been neglected for a long time.
The Wanstead Society have been lobbying hard in recent months to secure funding for the park, and at the Area 1 Committee meeting in June, £5000 was allocated from the discretionary budget to spend on improvements.
Whilst we are grateful to the committee for this we feel that it is nowhere near enough to bring the park up to scratch.
We have recently learned that the swings have approximately 18 months of serviceable life left and there are no official funds to replace them. We are therefore trying to seek assurances from the Leisure department of Redbridge Council that at the very least they will find the necessary funds to replace them.
There is a meeting in the park at 6pm on October 5th with senior members of the council to discuss how the £5000 will be spent and we will also be using this an opportunity to discuss the general state of the park. Please feel free to join us.
Thanks for this Claire. We’ve sent off for an application form and will keep you posted.
