The council have been kind enough to re-plant the High Street flower beds but it will take some time for the new shrubs to fill out which leaves quite a lot of bare soil in the meantime.
So the Wanstead Society guerrilla gardeners have got on the case once again; in the spring, the beds outside Wanstead Pharmacy and the greengrocers should be sporting red and white tulips, miniature daffodils and early species crocuses. The larger bed outside the Co-op should sprout mini daffodils and crocuses in time.
This is something of an experiment; we have to see what gets trodden on, picked or generally mangled and what survives and where. A busy High Street by its nature is not necessarily a plant friendly place but we’re hoping for the best.
Watch this space… The bulbs have been planted and are ready and waiting.
How I love it, sitting here in Pforzheim,Germany
and looking at wonderful pictures from Wanstead in the internet.
And most of all reading about wanstead and what is going on there.
I really love and enjoy what you all are doing for wanstead.
Best wishes to all of you.
